Key Challenges
Drive User Insight Through Rapid Exploration
- Lead user research with emphasis on early, prototype-driven user testing.
- Utilize AI-assisted prototyping for quick idea exploration and validation before engineering investment.
- Turn ambiguous feedback or requests into concrete hypotheses, tested prototypes, and actionable learnings.
Set the Bar for Product Design
- Shape and evolve design philosophy and principles, balancing speed vs. polish and AI-enabled vs. traditional workflows.
- Ensure design decisions are grounded in real user insights.
Make Design a Force Multiplier
- Build and maintain a design system that accelerates team performance and encodes user insights.
- Advocate for modern, especially AI-powered, tools and workflows to streamline the process from concept to feedback.
Lead and Grow the Design Team
- Coach and mentor product designers to adopt a prototype-first, research-driven approach.
- Emphasize learning through making, testing, and iterating (not traditional handoffs/specs).
- Remain hands-on as needed: prototyping, user testing, and clearing blockers.
Collaborate Deeply Across Teams
- Work closely with Product and Engineering to ensure rapid learning drives the roadmap.
- Foster shared understanding of users using prototypes, narratives, and clear synthesis—not just documentation.
Required Skills
- Fluency in qualitative user research (concept and usability testing, workflow validation).
- Experience leading product design with a prototype-first, iteration-driven mindset.
- Design systems thinking: Translate insights into scalable systems and patterns.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted design tools; openness to new technologies and workflows.
- Collaborative leadership style, partnering with Product and Engineering.
- Cross-platform experience: Competence designing for web and desktop.
- Bias to action: Comfortable moving forward with iterations, reducing risk.

- Leadership & Management: Resume should describe your management philosophy and key leadership achievements.

Working Arrangements
- Remote First: Fully remote work. No requirement to relocate.
- Relocation: Visa support available if relocating to Japan is desired.
- Flexible Hours:
- Flexible time: 6:00 am – 11:30 am / 3:00 pm – 10:00 pm
- Core time: 11:30 am – 3:00 pm
- Virtual Office: Create a virtual character and interact with colleagues in a digital environment.
Employment Details
- Location: Home or similar; occasional requirement to commute if necessary.
- Schedule: Five-day week (Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, company holidays)
- Employment Status: Full-time (permanent, fixed overtime included)
- Probation: 6 months
- Smoking Policy: Passive smoking prevention in effect
