KOMOJU

About the Company

KOMOJU is the leading cross-border payment gateway for Japan, powering payments for companies like video game distribution platform Steam and the popular mobile app TikTok. We provide merchants with the payment infrastructure they need through developer-friendly APIs and integrations on popular platforms like Shopify and Wix, helping them grow in all markets they are expanding.

What to Expect

We are product-focused, meaning you will work on our payment gateway and other pilot projects towards building the future of KOMOJU. You will collaborate with other engineers in a flat and inclusive culture where engineers have a voice in key product and technology decisions. The culture is largely self-organizing, allowing engineers to have both a stake and ownership in their work. Engineers are encouraged to play to their strengths, while also investing in areas for personal growth within the team.

International at Our Core

With a diverse workforce, including a founder who is Canadian and about 50% of employees being non-Japanese, our engineering team uses English as the common language. Many employees are bilingual. We recognize the importance of bilingualism and offer lessons in English and Japanese.

We hire international software developers not yet based in Japan, providing options to work from your country or relocate to Japan with support for temporary accommodation and assistance in securing permanent residency.

Passionate About Technology

Our developers are passionate about their craft. To foster innovation, we host a monthly open hack day where engineers can explore new programming languages or tools, sometimes resulting in new tools adopted by the company, like Kaiser.

We also sponsor developer conferences such as RubyKaigi and EuRoKo, offering time and resources for developers wishing to submit talks.

A Generous Holiday Policy

In addition to your regular holidays (10 days of annual leave), you will receive an extra paid holiday on your birthday, an additional week of vacation in the summer, and one week during the New Year.
