Job Details

Mission of the Team / Job Requirements

Mission and Required Role of the Backend Architect team:

  • As the manager of the Backend Architect team, you will commit to the growth of products created by Merpay from the perspective of solving engineering organization challenges and maximizing organizational achievements.

Specific job responsibilities are as follows:

  • Create a strong engineering organization through recruitment and training.
  • Support the growth and career development of engineers (goal setting, evaluation, feedback).
  • Assign engineers appropriately based on individual growth and company situation.
  • Discuss the validity of technical choices with VPoE, CTO, and tech leads of each team, and contribute to the correct technical growth of the organization and individuals.
  • Collaborate with product managers and tech leads to support the success of products.

Development Environment:

  • Programming Language: Go
  • Infrastructure: Google Cloud Platform (Compute Engine, App Engine, Cloud SQL, Datastore, Storage, Stackdriver Logging, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, etc.)
  • Configuration Management Tool: Terraform
  • Analytics Platform: BigQuery / Looker
  • Monitoring: Stackdriver Monitoring / Datadog
  • Others: Circle CI / GitHub / Slack / JIRA / Crowi / Spinnaker / Sentry
  • Development Methodology: Agile (Scrum, Kanban, etc.)

Unique Challenges

  • As a team that works closely not only with Merpay but also with Mercari, there are many opportunities for organizational management to solve the challenges unique to large-scale services.
  • In the Fintech business field, we have consistently adopted a microservice architecture since its inception, and more than 50 teams manage over 100 microservices. You will be able to strategically plan management with engineers on how to approach technical aspects in the development and operation of large-scale micro-architectures.
  • You can develop business management capabilities focusing on GRC (Governance, Risk and Compliance) in order to establish the Fintech field as a viable business.

Requirements

  • Sympathy with Mercari Group and each company's mission and values
  • Able to promote the growth of engineers and commit to maximizing the organization
  • Development experience in the backend or SRE fields
  • Project management experience
  • High communication skills, including interdepartmental coordination and mentoring of engineers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience in financial institutions or FinTech companies
  • Communication skills in English

  • Able to assign engineers appropriately while understanding the priorities of the business
  • Able to challenge new technical areas with a wide range of technical knowledge
  • Able to commit to the success of the business and the growth of engineers while properly understanding the WILL / CAN / MUST of engineers
  • Able to solve organizational problems by demonstrating high communication skills
