Team Mission / Responsibilities

As a Manager for Partner Platform Engineering, you will be responsible for solving engineering organization challenges and maximizing organizational achievements from the perspective of growing the products that emerge from Merpay.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Leading projects related to Mercari Group's business partners
  • Building a strong engineering organization through hiring and development
  • Supporting the growth and career development of engineers (goal setting, evaluation, feedback)
  • Assigning engineers appropriately based on individual growth and company situation
  • Discussing the validity of technical choices with CTOs and Tech Leads and contributing to the correct technical growth of the organization and individuals
  • Collaborating with Product Managers and Tech Leads to support the success of the product

Development Environment:

  • Programming Language: Go
  • Infrastructure: Google Cloud Platform (Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, Cloud SQL, Spanner, Storage, Stackdriver Logging, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, etc.)
  • Configuration Management: Terraform
  • Analytics Platform: BigQuery / Looker
  • Monitoring: Datadog / PagerDuty / Sentry
  • Others: GitHub / Slack / JIRA / Spinnaker / Confluence
  • Development Methodology: Agile (Scrum, Kanban, etc.)

Unique Challenges

  • In the Partner Platform team, we are responsible for the development and operation of handling all aspects of business partner applications/reviews/management within the Mercari Group. To support the business growth of the Mercari Group, it is required to have a design philosophy with a general and scalable approach in dealing with various business partners as a Platform.

Required Skills

  • A shared understanding and empathy towards the mission and values of the Mercari Group and its companies
  • Experience as an engineering manager (1 year or more)
  • Project management experience
  • Strong communication skills for inter-department coordination and engineering mentoring
  • Development experience in technical areas such as backend or infrastructure
  • Development experience in cloud environments using AWS or GCP

Preferred Skills

  • Work experience in financial institutions or Fintech companies
  • Software development experience based on the microservices architecture

  • Being able to assign appropriate engineers while understanding the priorities of the business
  • Being able to take on new challenges while having a broad technical knowledge
  • Being able to commit to the success of the business and the growth of engineers while appropriately understanding the WILL / CAN / MUST of engineers
  • Having strong communication skills to solve organizational issues
  • Demonstrating leadership, flexibility, and a sense of speed
  • Being able to contribute to team building in a diverse team
