Description

As the manager of the BI Product Team (analytics engineers) at Mercari, you will be responsible for leading all aspects of the team's mission: from strategic planning and consensus-building with stakeholders, to strengthening organizational capabilities. This position maximizes the team's output by constructing a highly automated and intelligent data ecosystem.

Work Responsibilities

  • Formulating team strategies and roadmaps to achieve the Group mission, prioritizing tasks, and deciding how to allocate resources
  • Building consensus with internal stakeholders, including leadership, as well as explaining the investment value of the data analysis environment and managing expectations
  • Leading the development and operation of data products such as Socrates, Basic Tables, and the semantic layer, and taking responsibility for quality and delivery
  • Managing goal-setting, performance evaluations, and talent development, while supporting strengths-based career growth for each team member
  • Fostering a data-driven culture by communicating the team’s achievements and insights throughout the company
  • Expanding the team’s capabilities and strengthening its organizational strength, such as by leading recruiting

Note: Job duties are not fixed and will change according to the scale of challenges the team faces and advancements in technology.

Unique Challenges

  • Strategy formulation and management in a new field with no precedents or established answers
    • Mercari leads the industry in the use of data and AI, offering LLM-powered internal applications such as Socrates.
    • Due to the pioneering nature of LLM applications, there are few precedents, giving you the unique opportunity to chart the team’s strategy and organizational direction.
  • Building and transforming the data infrastructure that supports Mercari Group’s AI-Native transformation
    • The team’s impact reaches beyond product development, providing a trustworthy data foundation for both AI and humans, and leading cross-organizational transformation.
  • High-leverage organizational scaling through systemization and role optimization
    • Meet rapidly expanding data utilization demands by scaling supply through automation and systemization, rather than increasing headcount.
    • Expected to increase the team’s value by deciding which tasks are best handled by humans, which by AI, and which not at all.
