Position: Product Manager (Mercari Shops / New B2C Business)
Employment Type: Full-time

Responsibilities
As a Product Manager, you will own everything from strategy to execution for Mercari Shops and new B2C services, leading a cross-functional team made up of engineers, designers, data analysts, and others. Under an AI-powered development structure, you will take end-to-end ownership and drive everything from problem discovery to business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities

Define the vision, strategy, and roadmap
- Define the ideal state of Mercari Shops / the new services, and formulate a mid-to-long-term vision and an actionable roadmap
- Based on quantitative/qualitative data and market/competitive trends, decide the priorities most directly tied to business growth while building alignment with the leadership team and related divisions

Discovery and generating a high-quality backlog
- Integrate diverse inputs—quantitative, qualitative, market, and competitive—to continuously supply a high-quality product backlog equipped with testable hypotheses and success conditions
- Use generative AI to accelerate research and prototyping and to run validation cycles faster

Leading product development
- Under a structure in which engineers lead development end-to-end, the PdM concentrates on hypothesis validation and key decisions
- Continuously improve and expand a wide range of products—not only the end-user-facing Mercari App / Web, but also the various management features (inventory, orders, promotions, etc.) of the merchant dashboard used daily on the shop operations front lines, as well as public APIs.

Launch & Learning (designing for reach, usage, and learning)
- Don't treat the release as the finish line: lead GTM design including Push/promotion/PR and coordination with related divisions (Marketing/CRM/CS, etc.)
- Monitor post-launch growth and long-term impact, and design the Next Action

Collaboration with stakeholders
- Requirement coordination and prioritization with Sales / BizDev / CS, Trust & Safety / Legal / Risk, Compliance, Marketing, CRM, and group companies, as well as reporting to and alignment with the leadership team

Unique Challenges
- For Mercari, historically a C2C marketplace, this is the challenge of connecting buyers with operators and brands through B2C user experiences, further raising the value we can offer as a marketplace.
- Mercari has 23 million monthly users; being able to deliver and propose new value at that scale is a unique appeal of this position.
- Under a development structure assuming AI, you can raise the resolution of the team's discussions and decisions starting from working prototypes, freeing the PdM to focus on Discovery and Outcome. You can move the product forward with broad discretion—including planning and driving new user experiences.
- Depending on your results, the scope you are entrusted with can expand significantly—ultimately, this is a position where you can gain the experience of running not just "one product" but "one business."
Requirements
Required Experience / Skills
- You resonate with the mission and values of the Mercari Group and of each company
- You can demonstrate consistent ownership from product discovery through delivering value to users, using AI
- Experience using AI tools for research, hypothesis validation, and prototyping; integrating data/user understanding; and improving the quality and speed of decision-making
- Experience taking responsibility for business outcomes such as KPIs (not the number of features) and leading the full cycle of discover → build → learn
- Experience not stopping at release, but designing through "reach, usage, and learning"—driving GTM, cross-divisional coordination, and post-launch learning
- Experience in product management for internet services (3+ years)
- Basic knowledge of software development (agile, etc.) and experience collaborating with engineering teams
- Experience extracting insights through data analysis using SQL, etc.

Preferred Experience / Skills
- Cross-boundary skills: a practical feel for at least one of BE/Frontend/Design/Data, usable for building prototypes and for dialogue with engineers
- Experience in both 0→1 (new launches) and 1→N (improving existing products)
- Experience in stakeholder coordination and alignment with Legal/BizOps/leadership/external partners, etc.
- Understanding of A/B testing and experience making decisions based on test results
- Experience in business development and product development in B2C/B2B business domains, and experience collaborating with sales organizations
- Experience in user-centric design and development, such as user journey maps and UX design
- Work experience using English, or experience in product development with multinational teams
