Autonomous Cloud & Search Infrastructure Teams

  • Build and operate the foundational infrastructure for product teams (Kubernetes, search infrastructure, observability, networking, and FinOps).
  • Make complex infrastructure simple to consume.
  • The Search Infrastructure team operates large-scale Elasticsearch clusters and supporting systems (Redis, vector databases) powering product search.
  • Abstract operational complexity so product teams can focus on features.

Work Responsibilities

  • Co-own the Elasticsearch cluster lifecycle (provisioning, sizing, upgrades, shard/replica strategy, index management).
  • Join on-call rotation after ramp-up; lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and follow-through improvements.
  • Drive performance and reliability initiatives across cluster, JVM, and query layers.
  • Improve search APIs and aggregation services.
  • Collaborate with the Platform Infrastructure team on key Kubernetes and Terraform work; mentor engineers.

Unique Challenges

  • Operate product-critical search platforms at large scale (hundreds of millions of indexed items, high query volume) with strict availability and latency targets.
  • Own the full stack: cluster operations, JVM tuning, query-path performance, platform-level ownership.
  • Balance reliability with long-term investments (version upgrades, automation, next-gen search/vector tech).
  • Bridge infrastructure and product: translate between capacity/reliability/cost and product needs (indexing, queries, experience).

Qualifications

Required

  • Shared belief in mission and values.
  • Senior engineering experience with distributed systems in production at scale.
  • Strong system design and distributed-systems fundamentals (consistency, replication, capacity planning, failure modes).
  • Production ownership of Elasticsearch (or similar): cluster sizing, JVM/heap tuning, query-performance debugging, shard strategy.
  • Track record of end-to-end domain ownership; proficiency in Go and/or Java.

Preferred

  • Lucene internals or JVM performance-engineering knowledge.
  • Vector search knowledge.
  • Production Kubernetes experience (GKE, EKS, or AKS): cluster upgrades, incident debugging.
  • Large-scale Terraform (custom modules, major migrations).
  • CI/CD platform experience.
  • Experience with C2C or e-commerce search/data services at scale.
