NIANTICUX Designer, Tokyo Studio
Location: Tokyo, Japan
Niantic's UX Design team builds innovative mobile experiences for tens of millions of users worldwide, encouraging discovery, exercise, and meaningful social interactions.
The team is growing! We're seeking a UX Designer to help deliver the next wave of experiences for our players. The UX Designer will collaborate closely with game design, art, product, and engineering teams to champion player interests through the design of intuitive, engaging, and usable user interfaces.
We’re looking for someone who is a strong advocate for the player, using both intuition and data-informed research to craft user-centered solutions. You should be comfortable internalizing existing design patterns and applying them to new contexts, presenting designs to peers, accepting feedback, and iterating in a collaborative, detail-oriented way.

Responsibilities
- Lead UX design efforts from concept to implementation for player-facing experiences.
- Develop mockups, wireframes, prototypes, and detailed design documentation to describe interaction flows and concepts.
- Communicate UX designs clearly to stakeholders.
- Actively participate in team meetings to conceptualize and brainstorm new features.
- Incorporate user research and player insights into all stages of design.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members, including regular and reliable attendance and participation in meetings.
- Required in-office attendance 3 days a week: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Qualifications
- 3+ years (or equivalent experience) in UX design for consumer-facing products, with a portfolio of shipped features/titles and personal projects.
- Experience with wireframing and prototyping in Figma collaboratively, using shared design libraries and patterns.
- Familiarity with mobile UX design patterns in gaming, fitness, or activity-related experiences.
- Experience designing implementation-ready UX mockups and flows for development purposes.
- Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to generate multiple solutions for a given area.
- Adaptability to work in a hybrid environment and handle dynamic situations with little advance notice.
- Experience working on cross-functional teams and ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communication, including asynchronous interactions.
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience implementing or manipulating UI elements in Unity.
- Japanese and English language proficiency.
