Job Description: Business Overview Rakuten Payment, Inc. is part of the Rakuten Group’s FinTech business. We provide payment services such as “Rakuten Pay,” “Rakuten Edy,” and “Point Partner.” Our platform is used by tens of millions of users and processes a large number of transactions every day. As a social infrastructure, our system requires high reliability and availability. In this position, you will support a mission-critical data platform and help evolve our database architecture as the service continues to grow. Department Overview The Product Development Division is responsible for the full lifecycle of payment systems, including planning, design, development, and operation. We develop and operate high-traffic, mission-critical systems by leveraging the synergy of the Rakuten Group. In this department, we handle the design, management, and improvement of database infrastructure. To support service growth, we promote architecture improvements and cloud migration. Position: Why We Hire As our service continues to grow (more users and transactions), we are accelerating system upgrades and Cloud Shift / Lift (On-Premise to Public Cloud). We are looking for engineers who can go beyond basic operations and contribute to database optimization, scalability improvement, and cloud-native transformation.   Position Details You will be responsible for the design, management, and improvement of our database infrastructure. This role is not only about operations. You will also work on improving performance and availability for large-scale systems, and be involved in architecture design when needed. Main Responsibilities - Design and manage databases for large-scale payment services (MySQL / MariaDB) - Perform performance tuning and analyze bottlenecks in high-load environments - Plan and execute migration from On-Premise to Public Cloud (AWS Aurora, GCP CloudSQL) - Design and improve cloud-native database operations Ensure data consistency, availability, and security across multiple systems - Work with global teams (including teams in India) Attraction of This Position - Work on data infrastructure for large-scale FinTech services - Be involved in the phase of cloud migration from On-Premise - Contribute not only to operations but also to architecture design and improvement - Make technical decisions related to scalability and availability challenges - Gain experience with multiple database and cloud technologies (MySQL / MariaDB / Aurora / CloudSQL, etc.) Mandatory Qualifications: - 3+ years of database administration experience - Experience with MySQL or MariaDB operation and management - Experience in either performance tuning or incident/issue handling - Business-level Japanese communication skills. Desired Qualifications: - Experience with database operation in Public Cloud environments (AWS Aurora, GCP CloudSQL) - Experience in migration from On-Premise to Public Cloud - Experience in large-scale or high-traffic systems - Experience with automation or IaC (Terraform, Ansible, etc.) - Experience with monitoring tools (Zabbix, Grafana, etc.) - Experience with multiple DBMS (Oracle, etc.) - Experience with On-Premise database operation - Experience using AI for database operation improvement - English communication skills Ideal Candidate - Able to solve problems with scalability and reliability in mind - Proactive in proposing and driving technical improvements - Able to collaborate with multiple stakeholders - Eager to learn new technologies and architecture Other Information: Additional information on Location NBF Shinagawa Tower  Additional information on Secondment This position will be employed by Rakuten Group, Inc. and seconded to Rakuten Payment, Inc.
