Job Description: Department Overview The EC Expansion Development Department is guided by a mindset of building a lean and efficient organization, and delivers products and systems that continuously strengthen and expand e-commerce. In a fast-changing business environment, we actively leverage AI and other advanced technologies to deliver value at speed, growing as a team through ongoing challenges and continuous improvement. Among these, the Marketplace Expansion Development Section develops and operates services such as the J.League Online Store, Furusato Nozei (Hometown Tax), Rakken, and RAXY. Additionally, the team is responsible for launching new EC-related services with the goal of expanding and growing Rakuten's marketplace. This is a highly challenging department where you can gain unique and valuable experiences that are distinct to Rakuten. Position: Why We Hire We are seeking a highly skilled DevOps Engineer dedicated to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment. In this position, you will be responsible for designing, automating, and managing cloud-native infrastructure, as well as optimizing the software delivery process. Working with a diverse global team, you will ensure the operation of highly available, scalable, and secure applications on GCP. Position Details - Proposing solutions aligned with business requirements, and designing and implementing scalable GCP infrastructure and automated CI/CD pipelines. - Refining, improving, and optimizing existing software delivery processes and cloud environments to eliminate bottlenecks. - Actively proposing new best practices and innovative ideas to evolve our engineering standards and cloud-native technologies. - Effectively collaborating and sharing knowledge with developers, QA, and management across a multicultural and diverse team. - Providing support for inquiries, system monitoring, and troubleshooting related to GCP infrastructure, microservices, and event-driven architecture as needed. Development Environment Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Docker, Google Kubernetes Engine, Terraform, Terragrunt, GitHub, Python, Kafka, Go, Google Cloud Pub/Sub, Databases (NoSQL)   Mandatory Qualifications: Core Technical & Cloud Requirements - Over 5 years of experience as a DevOps Engineer, with a strong emphasis on cloud-native architectures. - Over 3 years of software development experience (e.g., Python, Go, Java, Bash, or Node.js). - Microservices & Event-Driven Architecture: Proven experience designing, deploying, and supporting distributed microservices and event-driven architectures (utilizing event-streaming services like Google Cloud Pub/Sub or Eventarc). - Strong GCP Expertise: Proven, hands-on experience provisioning and managing core GCP services (e.g., Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Cloud Run, Compute Engine, VPC, Cloud IAM). - GCP-Native CI/CD & Delivery: Deep experience designing and managing CI/CD pipelines using Google Cloud Build, Google Cloud Deploy, and Artifact Registry. Experience with modern GitOps workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or ArgoCD) is highly valued. - Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Extensive experience automating cloud infrastructure using Terraform. - Containers & Orchestration: Strong expertise in containerization (Docker) and orchestration, specifically within GKE and serverless environments like Cloud Run. - Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve bottlenecks in the software delivery process. Desired Qualifications: - GCP Certifications: Google Cloud Professional DevOps Engineer, Professional Cloud Architect, or Professional Cloud Security Engineer. - Observability & SRE: Experience with cloud monitoring, alerting, and logging using Google Cloud Observability (formerly Stackdriver). - Advanced Messaging: Deep, hands-on server maintenance and tuning experience with Kafka on GCP computer instances. - Database Management: Experience with GCP-native NoSQL databases such as Cloud Bigtable or Firestore (experience with Cassandra is also applicable). - DevSecOps: Experience integrating security into pipelines, using tools like Google Cloud Secret Manager, Binary Authorization, and Container Analysis. - Experience working in multicultural and multigenerational teams.
