Job Description: Department Overview Our MDSD value is that deliver superior User Experience via our Medias, and build Solutions on the acquired Data for Marketing and GMS boost for internal and external business In the Media Platform Development section, we provide platform services related to point acquisition experiences. SPS (Super Point Screen) is a mobile application that delivers advertising content, integrated with numerous Rakuten's ad-related technologies. To provide more broadly targeted content across various Rakuten services, SPS accumulates user behavior history. While our development base is in Japan, we collaborate with team members based in Singapore to operate the service.   Position Why We Hire We are looking for a DevOps Engineer to work on Rakuten's smartphone application, "Super Point Screen." In a continuously growing service, you will lead the architectural design, consider the overall stability, cost reduction, performance improvement, and maintainability of the infrastructure environment, and then implement development, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance. For unknown problems and entirely new technologies, independently research and actively communicate with internal and external experts to resolve and implement them.   Position Details The mission of this service is to “Become a media platform that creates highly-satisfying-experiences by providing numerous touch points between users and clients through Rakuten Super Points”. Own development and production support for platforms, documentation, and operations, building scalable infrastructure that enables rapid iteration. Proactively identify business/platform pain points by mastering workflows; drive technical solutions for core systems/modules in cloud/Kubernetes. Architect resilient, observable platforms supporting complex multi-scenario operations, while contributing to the infrastructure roadmap. Independently deliver large-scale projects end-to-end, ensuring timelines/quality through functional leadership. Enforce operational excellence as an active reviewer, providing actionable feedback on reliability, security, performance, and cost. Manage services in production environments to ensure high availability and performance. Align with the company's lifecycle management (LCM) strategy, understand the cloud environment upgrade plans and contents, and make and execute regular upgrade plans for systems, software, and middleware to minimize service impact. Align with the company’s security requirements; prioritize remediation of vulnerabilities in server environments.   Work Environment Mandatory Qualifications: - 7+ years in DevOps/SRE/Platform Engineering. - Deep expertise operating cloud platform (GCP) and Kubernetes (GKE/EKS) at scale. - Deep knowledge in supporting server-side architectures (monoliths, microservices, event-driven and other distributed systems). - Mastery of scaling patterns for large-scale, high-traffic services, including scaling across layers (web, database, logging). - Deep middleware knowledge: distributed caching, message queues, RPC frameworks; plus networking/IAM fundamentals. - Commitment to production service support: ensure service availability and drive recovery from system troubles as the highest priority. - Plan and monitor infrastructure resource usage to ensure cost-effectiveness; collaborate with the team to reduce unnecessary costs where possible. - Passionate technologist with ownership mindset; cost optimization and observability experience preferred.   Desired Qualifications: - Design and develop reusable DevOps libraries and CI/CD pipelines that can be easily applied across projects. - Sharp problem-solving and business-to-tech translation; strong cross-functional leadership. - Monitoring and alert design that considers business KPIs considered to the characteristics of the service. - Knowledge of Airflow and DAG in a GCP BigQuery environment, and experience building data pipelines.
