The Entertainment Service Development Department (ESDD) develops and operates various digital content services such as video, music, tickets, and manga, providing value to millions of users in Japan and around the world. Department Overview The DevOps Group in ESDD's Tech Management Section is responsible for building, operating, and automating the infrastructure that supports Rakuten's various entertainment and content services listed below. The group's vision is "Self-healing, autonomous software delivery," with a mission to use all operations data for continuous improvement and better service quality. The services we support are as follows (the scope may change depending on team and project needs): - R-Channel: A linear video streaming service that broadcasts about 42 channels for free 24/7, including anime, movies, news, and sports. No account registration is needed, and it offers catch-up and unlimited viewing features. - Rakuten TV: A video-on-demand platform that offers movies, TV shows, anime, and more through subscription, rental, and purchase options. This is Rakuten's main video streaming service with global reach, mainly in Europe. - Rakuten DRAGON: An integrated live commerce solution that combines live streaming, data analysis, and streaming support. This platform allows Rakuten Market stores to introduce and sell products through real-time video. - Rakuten PLAY: A streaming guide service that brings together content information from multiple video streaming services in Japan (such as ABEMA, Hulu, U-NEXT). It provides unique rankings and recommendation article features, and connects with Rakuten Points. - Video Platform: An internal shared video delivery infrastructure that supports all the video streaming services mentioned above. - Rakuten Books: Rakuten's online bookstore that sells books, comics, CDs, DVDs, and more. It also supports e-books. - Rakuten Music: A subscription-based music streaming service that connects with Rakuten Points. - Rakuten Ticket: A ticket sales and booking platform for various events such as concerts, sports, and theater. - Rakuten NFT (Minna no Ticket): Started in 2022 as an NFT marketplace using blockchain technology, and was renewed in September 2025 as "Minna no Ticket," a platform focused on ticket resale. Users can access it with just a Rakuten ID and credit card, and it supports Rakuten Points. - Rakuten Magazine: A digital magazine service that offers unlimited reading of over 1,500 popular magazines for a fixed monthly fee. - R-TOON: A service focused on vertical-scrolling digital comics. It offers various content, including original works co-created with partner publishers, with one free episode available daily. Position: Why We Hire As our services grow, the size and complexity of our infrastructure are increasing. We are looking for DevOps/SRE/Infrastructure engineers who can make an immediate impact, while maintaining stability and reliability and accelerating the adoption of AI and SRE best practices. We are seeking people who can find problems on their own and lead improvements. Position Details You will be responsible for operating and maintaining Kubernetes-based BtoC systems. Main tasks include: system monitoring, alert response, and troubleshooting; answering questions from development teams; managing EOL for operating systems and middleware; planning and running non-functional tests for large-scale load and failure scenarios; investigating bottlenecks and improving performance; building and maintaining Jenkins pipelines; creating and following operation procedures; and proposing improvements to stakeholders. You will also actively work on improving operation efficiency using AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, and Gemini.
