Department Overview The EC Business Data Analytics & Platform Section is part of the Business Support Development Department (BSD) within the Commerce & Marketing Company. It develops and operates a data platform that uses the large amount of data from Rakuten Ichiba, which is a main business of Rakuten Group. This section provides the following main services and functions to speed up Rakuten Ichiba's business growth using data and AI. Data Platform (DWH) Development and Operation It designs, builds, and operates a data warehouse (DWH) that brings together and stores many kinds of Rakuten Ichiba data. This provides a strong and scalable data base. Data Pipeline Development and Operation It develops and operates data pipelines for real-time and batch processing. This makes data collection, processing, and connection automatic, providing a steady data supply. Data Solutions (Data Processing, BI) It develops data analysis, visualization, and reporting functions. This helps business intelligence (BI) and provides solutions that support fast and accurate decisions based on data. AI Solution Development and Operation It uses machine learning and AI technology to develop and operate new AI solutions. These include predictive analysis, automation, customer behavior analysis, and AI agents, which create new business value. This position plays an important role in making these data-related projects successful and helping Rakuten Ichiba improve further. Position: Why We Hire We are looking for someone for this position to improve the project management of large-scale data platforms. Position Details As a Project Manager, you will be in charge of managing and promoting all data platform, data warehouse, data pipeline, data solution, and AI solution development projects handled by the EC Business Data Analytics & Platform Section. Your mission is to build and strengthen the data base and solutions that support Japan's largest e-commerce platform and to maximize business impact. Specifically, your work will include the following tasks: Project Planning and Definition - Clearly define project goals, scope, and results, and get agreement from stakeholders. - Create a full project plan, including a roadmap, detailed plans, schedules, resource allocation, risk assessment, and communication strategy. - Set clear project milestones and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) to make progress, results, and return on investment visible and measurable. Project Management and Promotion - Strictly manage project progress and ensure that schedules, budgets, and quality standards are followed. - Run projects by using the best development methods for each project's needs, such as Agile (Scrum, Kanban, etc.) and Waterfall. - Manage the entire software development life cycle, including requirements definition, design, development, testing, and release, following best practices. - Find project issues and risks early, take proper action, and escalate if needed. Stakeholder Management - Work closely with many people involved, such as senior managers, product managers, data scientists, engineers, QA teams, and business departments. Adjust requirements, confirm specifications, report progress, and solve problems with them. - Report regularly to senior management (status, issues, risks, results) and ensure transparent information sharing. - Manage the expectations of those involved and work to meet their needs throughout the project. Resource and Budget Management - Create and manage project budgets, track and control spending, and aim to optimize costs and improve ROI (Return on Investment). Process Improvement - Suggest and carry out continuous improvements to development processes and project management methods. - Promote the introduction and use of project management tools, and help share and standardize best practices. Mandatory Qualifications: - Over 5 years of work experience as a project manager or in a similar role (product manager, scrum master, etc.). - Experience managing the entire life cycle of software development projects, including planning, execution, monitoring, and completion. - A history of successfully leading projects that involved coordinating and negotiating with multiple stakeholders (business departments, development teams, senior management, etc.). - Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills. Desired Qualifications: - Project management certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or Scrum Master (CSM, PSM, etc.). - Experience managing projects related to data platforms, data warehouses (DWH), data pipelines, data analysis, and AI/machine learning. - Practical experience using Agile development methods (Scrum, Kanban, etc.). - Practical experience using project management tools (JIRA, Confluence, Redmine, etc.). - Practical experience in system development and engineering, especially a basic understanding of data-related technologies (SQL, Python, cloud DWH, etc.). - Experience with budget management and cost management. - Business communication skills in English.
