Department Overview The Business Support Development Division (BSD) plays a crucial role in supporting various business operations that occur between users, clients, and Rakuten businesses from a systems perspective. Our division provides diverse services across four key domains: DATA, Business Support/Accounting, CRM, and AI Agent, which builds the foundation for leveraging AI across the entire Rakuten organization. Position: Why We Hire As our systems scale continues to expand, robust quality management has become a strategic priority. We are looking for a Quality Assurance Lead to drive improvements in our testing processes and take end-to-end ownership of quality management across Business Support Services. In this role, you will establish and maintain consistent quality standards, working closely with users, clients, and cross-functional stakeholders to build a scalable quality assurance framework that meets evolving business needs. Position Details - Define and maintain data quality standards and test strategies - Monitor and report on data quality KPIs, identify trends and root causes - Work closely with Product Managers, Data Engineers, and Development Teams to define and improve quality-standards across each phase of the data management cycle - Improve processes through standardized data QA practices to sustain high performance and uplift underperformers - Manage quality incidents, escalations, and implementation of preventive measures - Propose, prioritize, and drive quality improvement initiatives - Assign, review, and develop team members (including outsourced members) - Manage multiple projects (including onsite and offsite) - Plan, design, implement, and execute testing (including outsourced team management) - Maintain quality-related documentation (test specifications and quality reports) - Prepare daily and weekly reports Work Environment The QA team consists of 5 to 10 members and operates in a global environment where both English and Japanese are spoken. Active discussions and exchanges of opinions are encouraged as part of daily QA activities. Regular one-on-one meetings are held to ensure a safe and secure working environment where team members can feel comfortable and supported. Mandatory Qualifications: - More than 3 years of experience in test strategy planning, test design, and manual test execution - Knowledge equivalent to ISTQB Foundation Level - Ability to read Japanese specifications and communicate in Japanese - Strong understanding of quality assurance methodologies and best practices - Experience in defect management and quality metrics tracking - Practical experience with SQL and foundational knowledge of relational databases - Understanding of data pipelines and testing experience - Practical experience in data quality management (accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timeliness) Desired Qualifications: - Experience in application development - Knowledge and experience in the internet services industry - Experience in API/UI test automation development and non-functional testing - E-commerce domain knowledge - Knowledge and experience with data warehouses and data lakes - Experience with BI tools (Tableau, Looker, etc.) or data visualization tools - Experience with big data processing platforms (BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, etc.) - Knowledge of data governance and data management Soft Skills - A proactive problem-solver who takes initiative to improve situations and engages others to drive change - Intellectually curious about challenges and able to keep pace with rapidly evolving business strategies - Strong communication skills - Continuously seeks new challenges and improvements rather than settling for the status quo - Values teamwork and delivers results Other Information: Additional information on Location Rakuten Crimson House (Head office) Additional information on English Qualification English - Business Level / TOEIC 800 above or possess equivalent abilities Additional information on Japanese Qualification Japanese - Business Level / JLPT N3 and can communicate in Japanese #engineer #applicationsengineer #commerce In Japanese, Rakuten stands for ‘optimism.’ It means we believe in the future.
