Senior QA Engineer (Automation focused) - Rakuten Payment, Inc. (Secondment)

Department Overview Our Quality Assurance Group is an independent third-party QA team whose primary role is Validation — confirming that business requirements are correctly met, independent from the development organization. Our mission is to safeguard product quality and reliability by verifying deliverables from an objective, external standpoint. We are now at a major turning point. Our next stage is to move beyond manual regression testing and build an end-to-end automated QA pipeline: "automated test kickoff after deployment → bug detection → quality assurance report generation." We are looking for someone who can technically lead this vision and grow into the future Tech Lead of our QA automation strategy. Position: Position Details Design, Build, and Lead the QA Automation Pipeline ・ Design and implement an end-to-end automated QA pipeline covering automated test kickoff after deployment, bug detection, and quality assurance report generation ・ Build the regression test automation framework from scratch, or significantly extend the existing foundation ・ Integrate test automation into CI/CD pipelines to establish continuous quality assurance mechanisms ・ Explore and adopt next-generation automation technologies, including AI-driven test case generation and self-healing scripts ・ Lead technical decision-making on automation strategy and tool selection as the team's Tech Lead Elevate the Team's Technical Capabilities ・ Establish automation best practices and disseminate them across the team ・ Provide technical mentoring to junior and mid-level team members, developing the next generation of QA engineers ・ Drive technical alignment and knowledge sharing with domestic and overseas QA teams, including the India QA team ・ Automation: Playwright, Appium, Selenium, WebDriver, Autify ・ Programming: Python, JavaScript / TypeScript, Java ・ CI/CD: Jenkins, GitLab CI ・ Test Management: TestRail, Jira ・ Collaboration: Confluence, Slack ・ AI: Rakuten AI Platform, LLM-based test generation (under exploration), Claude Code Mandatory Qualifications: ・ Hands-on experience designing and building test automation frameworks at production scale using Selenium, Appium, Playwright, WebDriver, Autify, or equivalent (not personal/side projects) ・ Experience integrating test automation into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, or equivalent) ・ Experience developing test scripts and automation tooling in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or equivalent ・ Practical experience with AI-driven test automation (automated test case generation, self-healing scripts, etc.) ・ 5+ years of experience leading end-to-end QA projects as an independent third-party QA (Validation) — not as a developer-side tester — covering test strategy, planning, execution, and reporting ・ QA experience covering web systems and mobile apps (iOS and/or Android) Desired Qualifications: ・ Business-level Japanese proficiency ・ A strong advantage for daily team communication, spec reviews with product teams, and reading Japanese documentation ・ Hands-on experience building end-to-end QA automation pipelines (deployment trigger → test execution → report generation) ・ ISTQB Foundation Level or above certification ・ Basic knowledge of Docker / containerization ・ Experience in Agile / Scrum development environments ・ QA experience in FinTech or payment services ・ Experience mentoring or coaching team members ・ Experience presenting test results and quality assurance reports to project stakeholders Other Information: Additional information on Location NBF Shinagawa Tower, Tokyo Additional information on Secondment This position will be hired by Rakuten Group, Inc. and seconded to Rakuten Payment, Inc. #engineer #fintechgroup #RakutenPay #RakutenPointCard #RakutenPointCard #RakutenPayment Languages: English (Overall - 3 - Advanced), Japanese (Overall - 2 - Intermediate) In Japanese, Rakuten stands for ‘optimism.’ It means we believe in the future.
