Job Description: Department Overview The Life & Leisure Service Development Department (LLSD) is handling a lineup of lifestyle and leisure related services, some of them being category leaders in the Japanese market. We aim at growing globally and becoming world leaders through innovation and technology. In order to achieve this, we are now looking for globally minded engineers to contribute to the development of our services. Here are some of the services we are handling: Rakuten GORA : Golf course reservation service Rakuten Beauty : Salon reservation service Rakuten Car : Automotive-related services Position: Why We Hire Services in LLSD are growing rapidly hence to support the business growth we need to have a robust and scalable system. Additionally, we are committed to give the best user experience on our services. That requires a bigger team and a high level of engineering skill. With this goal we are planning to increase the number of employees. Position Details We're looking for a Software Developer to design and build features across the GORA platform - Japan's leading golf course reservation service. You will work on a backend that handles reservations, player profiles, swing analysis, scoring, rewards, and course data for millions of golfers. The system is a growing microservice architecture with async data flows at its core. Day to day you will design and implement new API endpoints, build and maintain batch jobs for data pipelines, contribute to ongoing platform migrations, and work across the full stack - from database schema to REST contract to integration test. You will be expected to write production-quality code, understand the domain deeply, and take ownership of features end-to-end. The codebase is large, the domain is data-rich, and the engineering bar is high. We care about correctness, test coverage, and code that is easy to reason about. Mandatory Qualifications: ・5 years web application development based on Java/Kotlin&Spring Boot, Restful API development is preferred ・Excellent knowledge and experience with RDBMS (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB) ・Experience with Kafka ・Good knowledge and experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Helm and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) ・Experience building CICD and GitOps from scratch such as Github Action, ArgoCD, ArgoWorkflow ・Proactive and great ownership for maintained product and system ・Experience using AI development tool, such as ClaudeCode, Codex Desired Qualifications: ・Experience of microservice architecture and design pattern ・Experience of tech lead/architect horizontal role in big organization ・Experience of maintain system for long term to regularly execute life cycle ・Experience of IaC, monitoring stack such as Prometheus, ELK, PagerDuty Other Information: Additional information on English Qualification ・Business Level English ・Proficient in English (TOEIC Score 800 above or equivalent) #engineer #applicationsengineer #commerce In Japanese, Rakuten stands for ‘optimism.’ It means we believe in the future.
