Job Description: Research Engineer / Research Scientist (AI4Science)

Key Responsibilities

• Development of key technologies and system integration for achieving the mission
  • Training and evaluation of LLMs (Large Language Models)
  • Development and evaluation of LLM agents
• Intellectual property generation and presentation of research outcomes, including joint research with partners

Required Skills and Experience

• English proficiency sufficient for reading, writing (including structured documentation), and speaking in R&D communication; conversant in Japanese for basic administrative tasks
• Deep passion and knowledge of the specified research topics
• Strong coding skills, specifically proficiency in Python
• Experience in team-based software development using GitHub or similar platforms
• Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field; strong background in computer science and data science principles
• Self-motivated and collaborative research and development experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Interdisciplinary areas, including the intersection of machine learning with science, engineering, drug discovery, and medicine
  • LLMs

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience in academic publications or real-world applications with significant contributions to both research design and implementation, in areas such as:
  • LLM training/evaluation and LLM agent development
  • Interdisciplinary areas relevant to the mission
• Recognition in data science competitions (e.g., Kaggle)
• Experience in web application development

Working Conditions

• Working Hours

  • Flexible work options available
  • Standard hours: 9:00 AM – 5:45 PM
  • Break: 1 hour
  • Overtime: Required as needed

• Salary and Bonuses

  • Monthly Salary: ¥541,667 – ¥1,500,000
  • Estimated Annual Salary: ¥6,500,000 – ¥18,000,000
    • Salaries include base pay plus fixed overtime allowance (up to 35 hours)
    • Additional incentives may be provided
    • Overtime pay applies to non-managerial positions if actual overtime exceeds the fixed 35 hours

• Allowances

  • Commuting allowance: Up to ¥150,000 per month
  • Eligible allowances based on position (management, overtime, night shift, holiday work, commuting)

• Holidays and Leave

  • Two regular days off per week (Saturday and Sunday), national holidays
  • Year-end and New Year holidays: December 29 – January 3
  • Company-designated holidays
  • Annual paid leave: 6–21 days (depending on starting month)
