Senior Staff Software Engineer

Overview

We are looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer to drive large-scale architecture transformation and lead technical breakthroughs across a global engineering organization. This role goes beyond any single department or product—collaborating with executive leadership to develop and execute company-wide technical strategies and next-generation platforms that will redefine the manufacturing industry.

Mission

Unlock the potential of the manufacturing industry by building an "AI Data Platform for Manufacturing" and creating a new global industry OS.

Role Expectations

As a top-tier technical leader, you will:

  • Formulate and execute comprehensive technical strategies aligned with business and long-term management plans, in close collaboration with executive and engineering leadership.
  • Not only advise, but also take a hands-on approach, creating resilient architectures and engineering foundations to scale the business globally.
  • Drive fundamental architectural renewal and resolve technical debt across the company.
  • Design next-generation platforms to support new business ventures.

Example Responsibilities

Note: Not limited to the following

  • Lead Global Technical Strategy & Architecture
    • Develop technical roadmaps to enable non-linear business growth (scaling 10x and beyond).
    • Design and drive "next-generation platform architecture" enabling independent evolution of multiple interconnected products.
  • Architect Fundamental Paradigm Shifts
    • Reimagine and overhaul company-wide technical foundations, transforming towards an "AI-native organization" and breaking productivity deadlocks.
  • Technical Decision Making & Quality Governance
    • Establish and implement global standards for security, performance, and scalability.
    • Review and support complex system designs involving multiple teams.
  • Build Cross-Organizational Technical Solutions
    • Tackle foundational challenges that cannot be solved by a single team, architecting and deploying optimal company-wide solutions.

What Makes This Role Unique

  • Shape the Core Systems of a Global Tech Company
    • Lead system architecture from scratch across a multinational engineering organization.
  • Drive Societal Change Through Technology
    • Deliver significant societal value by transforming legacy manufacturing via technology.
  • Direct Business Impact
    • Influence key architectural decisions that determine the success and global growth rate of the business.
  • From Chaos to Order
    • Face the complexities of rapid growth and refine them into simple, robust systems.

Requirements

Must-Haves

  • World-class technical expertise and leadership.
  • Deep specialization in one or more technical domains, with the ability to take action beyond "full-stack" capabilities.
  • High abstraction ability: linking business/management strategy and technology for growth-oriented decision making.
  • Proven experience as a lead engineer or architect of multiple products or large-scale global systems.
  • Track record of designing large-scale, complex system architecture, resolving technical debt, and driving platformization to completion.
  • Fluent business-level Japanese communication skills (including ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to non-engineers).

Nice-to-Haves

  • (Strongly Preferred): Business-level English ability (to collaborate with global engineering hubs).
  • Leadership experience as a Staff/Principal Engineer, CTO, VPoE, or equivalent at a global tech company or large-scale venture.
  • Deep involvement in product development across various growth phases.
  • Demonstrated leadership in architecting and commercializing AI/machine learning/data-driven products.
  • SaaS system design and growth experience in global markets such as North America.
  • Outstanding OSS contributions or high technical presence in the tech community.

Desired Personal Traits

  • Deep empathy for the mission to unlock the potential of manufacturing and a passion for industrial transformation.
  • Able to view technology as a means for scaling business and maximizing customer value, focusing on business outcomes when making technical decisions.
  • Able to design architecture for the future from a zero-base, unbound by existing norms or past success.
  • Possess strong technical gravitas, able to lead organizations through difficult technical challenges and chaotic situations.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual Salary: 15M – 25M JPY (approximate, negotiable upon entry)
  • Stock Option Plan: Available
